Those Fleeting Moments of Earthly Paradise

These  fleeting moments of perfection
When all things click and all is well
Are moments to cherish and hold tight
For they are fleeting, as fleeting as the breeze
That kisses the tendrils of one's hair and blows away
As fleeting as the dawn that breaks in splendor
And then becomes the blazing sun, hot and relentless

These moments are the reasons that we strive for perfection
That give our life meaning and the reason to go on
To face the rigors of the humdrum existence, that represents
The bulk of the living day, but the hope of finding that perfect bliss
Once again for as long as it lasts, keeps us striving and yearning to
Catch that blissful moment when all things fall in place and time stands still
Suffusing our being, with the joy of the present moment
Knowing deep down that it will stay a bit
And then waft away, to perhaps, fill another soul with happiness

Perhaps there is an all knowing Being, somewhere in the sky
Who doles out these perfect moments, these fleeting bits of paradise ?
Perhaps he ordains a zero sum game, my joy is someone's grief ?
And in turn my grief is somebody's joy ?
If that is so, I will still ask that Being to give me my share
As I too  deserve a place to bask in the morning sun, and look at the dawn
Enjoying the present bliss and unworried about its impermanence
Exulting in present  to face inevitably, future arrows of misfortune
Appears to be the lot for all beings that are fallible and human

And why should we want it any different ?
As to understand joy one must have faced and understood sorrow
The  inevitable Yins and Yangs of existence that we traverse
For a bit and then wend our own way to our destiny
Yes I  will call it paradise, because the ups and downs of the present
Deserves something better in afterlife, but whether it is so
Is not available to mortals to know, but only to speculate
And hope that those fleeting moments are precursors
To something better and less ephemeral in that valley
That one passes through only once in a turbulent lifetime
