Bilingual aka Spencer, has placed before me a conundrum. Of picking the fifth sentence of the 123rd page of any book and write about it. The above is what I understand of what he has asked .
So I picked up the Kite Runner, Khalid Husseini(Riverhead:Penguin Books, 2003) ,by the way I took a partial carry over sentence as one sentence. This is a book that I have been reading sporadically as it is so beautifully written that you can pick any part of the book, as long as you know the basic plot, and enjoy the beautiful prose. I know Avinashjee is also reading the book and I hereby invite him to give his rendition of page 123 Sentence 5 of the Kite Runner, either in prose, humor(which is his wont) or in poesy as he wishes.
The sentence, as usual resplendent with echoes of places visited and is full of imagery:
I only know the memory lived in me, a perfectly encapsulated morsel of a good past, a brushstroke of color in the gray barren canvas that our lives had become.:
This is my reposte to the above lines
Memories
Memories are special when they choose to appear
They come unbidden, from the deep recesses of the mind
They are sometimes fleeting but often times simply adhere
Till the mind goes on to another memory or thought
They can be haunting and pleasant, with memory and thought entwined
Or they can be heavy with memories of incidents we had forgot
Those are incidents that were difficult, hard rending or just austere
But they are there with us, life's companions, and constant friends
That when we get them we lovingly clasp them to heart
Those memories that will not leave us, as true friends will not
These good one's so beautifully formed and remembered with joy
These are pleasant reminders that life's embers
Are not all sorrowful, laden with incidents with pain so fraught
The painful one's are harrowing reminders of man's victimhood
Of person's and events and happenstances, on which we brood
Of uncontrollable events and disasters of pernicious climes
They are drab and lack color when they depict painful times
Good Memories appear in bright colors in sharp contrast
To the drab colors of bad momories in our checkered past
But both are there and there they will be
Until this mind of ours decides to call it quits
When we follow our maker and cease to be,Or
Lose our minds to the ravages of mind's unknowable pits
Be not afraid and painstakingly but happily record
These memories, good and bad are precious glimpses of history
They should be recorded because they are a part of you
They are yours and yours alone, your peculiar lfe's story
That dies with you and only you can properly comprehend
Their future impact on foe and friend
Because by their recording you record that you WERE
That you breathed and lived, laughed and cried
And were no statistic, but a being with pride.
I ask all my list of friends to take their hand in this conundrum, and best of luck to them

Thank You melody: This was the understanding that I got or it could have been the understanding that I wanted to get.
Your opinion is both valued and appreciated.

That was beautiful, Girdhar and an entirely different take on the tag game from what I had understood. Really, the tag game would have been interesting had it been initiated on these lines, instead of just having to post three sentences...Yeah, memories come unbidden and sometimes it's like the sluice gates of a dam thrown open. At other times they trickle in, teasing us to capture them in their entirety. But they are ours to reflect and ponder...

Thank you Aditi: It appears I seem to have misunderstood the game I had been asked to play, but I indulged in one of my favorite past times anyway.
